Aberford Albion v Kirk Deighton Rangers Match Preview

ree

Following a good win at Hartshead last Saturday, Rangers now turn their attention to a tough match against Aberford tomorrow night at Bunkers Hill.

The game has a 6:30 pm kick-off time, and the weather looks to be its usual for a game of football; light rain showers, mixed with sunny intervals and a slight breeze!

The Opposition.

Like us, Aberford have had a mixed start to the season. Their opening match saw them beat Pool AFC 3-1, but this was followed up with a 2-2 draw against East End Park and, more recently, a 6-2 defeat against Rawdon Old Boys. The stats show that they are averaging 2.33 goals per match, but have conceded an average of 3 goals per game!

At the moment, they sit a place behind us in 10th place, but with the table tightly packed as it is, a win could see them top the league, whilst a defeat could mean 14th place.

As has been the case over the last few seasons, Aberford remain one of the highly fancied teams to challenge for promotion, so it will hopefully be a good game of football.

Head to Head.

Our database shows just the two meetings between the sides (but it is incomplete so some past meetings may not be known). Out of the two matches, one was abandoned and the other ended in a strange 6-4 defeat for us at Barr Field (R Holliday (2), L.Dubery and S.Abbott scoring).

Team News For Rangers.

The downside to the win against Hartshead was that Dan Marshall now has another three players with injuries, which will interrupt his plans to field a consistent line-up. With Jack Abbott also suffering a knee injury during the Reserves 4-1 win over Sherburn and joining Joe Straker on the side-lines for a while, it may be a case of waiting to the last possible moment to assess players available!

The good news is that there are no suspension worries, so at least we have a clean bill of health in that respect.

What about Aberford Albion?

One player who may line up against us is Carl Heard. Carl made a couple of appearances for us last season (scoring one goal) before moving on and ending up at Bunkers Hill. They also have demon goalscorer John Mallinson in their squad, and like most seasons, he has wasted little time racing up the goal-scorers chart with three strikes to his name already!

Like us, Albion also have no suspension worries.

The Man In The Middle.

The referee for this game is Mr Colin Woods. This is Mr Woods’s third match of the season and so far he has displayed just the one yellow card.
