In a game that saw Rangers come from behind to lead with two sublime goals from Joe Straker and Danny Grannon, but ultimately lose 4-2 after a couple of late strikes. A disappointed, but pragmatic Dan Marshall spoke to KDRFC TV after the match.
Here is what he had to say,
On the game itself ....
We were saying on the touch line that it could go either way and that there would probably be a late goal that would win it, unfortunately we were proved right, and it was Boroughbridge who ended up getting it and another to boot! The first half was very open with chances for both sides. We scored two great goals through Straker (Joe) and Grannon (Danny) and were in a strong position, but we’ve given away soft goals, especially the two in the first half. The second half became a scrappy affair and Boroughbridge, in all reality, had the better of the play. Credit to them, they kept on going to the end and got their rewards.
On mixing the squads up for the last game …
It’s a strange one as our season finishes when they have two league games and a Cup Final to go, and as you say, normally you would look to bring two or three players who are knocking on the door into the squad, but I think that in this case its definitely right and without question to allow them to finish their season with their whole squad and concentrate on their title and cup bid.
Taking the positives from a defeat ….
We will look at this game and take what we can from it and apply it to making us a more solid unit. We have built our game over the past 3 or 4 seasons in being tight at the back and then scoring goals going forward. This doesn’t mean we are necessary the top goalscorers in the league, but we are tough to break down and can strike when the opportunity presents. This is what we need to get back to and we will work hard to do so.
On the two goals scored today …
After the goal by Danny, he announced that it was the best goal he has ever scored and to be fair, I think anyone who saw it would agree that it will take some beating! I also have to say that Joe’s strike was an amazing one and he’s been knocking on the door for most of the season with those shots, so it was good to see it go in today. The only thing I am disappointed with is to score two goals of that calibre and to come out of the game with nothing.
