Dan Marshall’s Post Match Reaction

The run continues for Rangers as a much improved second half display saw four goals scored without reply.

The first goal arrived in the 49th minute courtesy of Danny Grannon. Following a red card for Pool’s skipper, Rob Holliday converted from the spot before Grannon scored his second of the match with a clinical finish. Substitute Will Bates, who can’t stop scoring rounded off the afternoon with a tidy goal in the 88th minute.

Of the game itself...

It was certainly a game of two halves and being honest I don’t really think we were at the races during some of the first half. You could argue that Pool were the better team whilst we had the better chances but couldn’t take them.

We had to change the shape for the second half, and it showed straight away with an increase in tempo. It was a lovely ball by Josh (Barden) and a superb finish by Danny (Grannon) and it gave us something to build on. One very pleasing thing was that we never looked like we were going to concede and, in the end, we could have had five or six possibly. Saying that, we took chances well and I was pleased with the goals we scored from open play.

We played in the second half the way we want to play, although Pool never made it easy, even with ten men they kept on going and battling.

On the early second half goal making it more relaxed...

Most definitely. We have played this formation for a few weeks, but today it was crying out for a bit of width. Once we got that width and the goal, we looked a lot more comfortable and it showed in the performance.

On Danny Grannon ...

He’s an obvious distraction for opposition defenders, he’s what you want in an attacker, big, strong, not intimidated by other players, but with his play he brings other players into the game. Even if it’s just movement off the ball, getting into positions to feed off him or play him in and that causes defenders to be dragged out of position which is what we want.

On Man Of The Match Dave McKay ...

Dave has been excellent for us since he joined us at the beginning of the season. He has had a few players alongside him this season but has made partnerships with them all and looks comfortable with whoever he plays with. Today, both him and Josh Buckley, who I also think had an excellent game played really well together. We even moved Dave to right back, which allowed us to push Joe Wilks into midfield and again they both contributed really well. Milky (Wilks) was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet when Dave picked him out, but the movement was superb.

On the red card ...

I’ve got to hold my hands up here and say I didn’t see it! I was retrieving a ball, looked up and it was all over. I saw the foul which was a push, but again, couldn’t tell you if it was in the area just because of the angle I was looking at it.

On Oxenhope Recreation next week ...

It’s not going to be another 7-2 to us, that’s for certain. They are one of the inform teams at the moment. I don’t know if they have had some players return or got some new faces in, but they seem to be scoring regularly and have moved up the table. I’m expecting a tough game, but we will be up for it and hopefully our run will continue. The games are coming thick and fast, which I like, and we are now only two points off third place, so it’s close at the top and even though we have played a few games more than some of the teams, it should be an exciting run in!
