Dan Marshall's Post Match Reaction

The local derby, whilst not the prettiest in terms of skill and football played, still offered the neutral an enthralling match with both teams sharing not only a point each, but six goals!

Wetherby took the lead, only for Rangers to equalise through Charlie Yates from the penalty spot. It was the away side who went in front early on in the second half through Adam Carter, but Wetherby drew level in the 75th minute. Athletic thought they had wrapped up the points and the game in the 83rd minute when they scored their third, but substitute Will Bates had other ideas when he scored from close range in the 86th minute.

Speaking after the match, this is what Manager Dan Marshall had to say:

On the match itself ...

It was probably a fair result, the conditions (especially in the first half) and pitch made it difficult for us to play our usual game. Im disappointed we haven’t seen the game out at 2-1, During that period we were in control and either should of killed it off or managed it out, however this has been our Achilles heel or season, credit to Wetherby they were hanging on at times in the 2nd half but never gave up and showed character.

On the determination in the team ...

I was pleased that when we went 3-2 down late in the game we kept trying to play football and didn’t panic, we equalised in the 86th minute and then created a further chance and could of snatched it at the death.

On derbies with Wetherby ...

We waited a lot of years for our first teams to play each other, and we hope it’s a fixture on the calendar next season. Credit to Matt (Barnfather) and Mick (O'Toole) who came in at a difficult time, their recent form has been good and l believe they will stay up.

On Rob Holliday ...

I thought Rob was the best player on the pitch today. He’s a very intelligent player and played in pockets today which Wetherby found difficult to deal with. Over the past six weeks his form has been excellent, when he returned from injury at the start of this year we challenged him to create, assist & score more goals, which of late he’s been doing.
