Rangers gained the three points after a very hard fought 2-0 win over Kippax FC, but it was a win that Assistant Manager David Campbell believed that Deighton deserved … just!
Goals from Danny Grannon and Adam Carter moved us into third space in the league, but one of the most pleasing aspects was the clean sheet which was only our third all season.
After the game, David spoke to KDRFC TV
About the game …
“It was a very hard fought two-nil and I thought that they were a very competitive side all over the pitch. They passed the ball and moved quickly and gave us plenty of problems. Saying that however, I think that we deserved the win. We had to weather a few storms during the game and maybe they deserved to get a goal in the first twenty minutes as they put us under a lot of pressure, but we stuck at it and got the win.”
On clean sheets …
“Considering that was only our third clean sheet all season, I think that’s the most pleasing thing about the result for me. It’s an area which we have struggled in this season, so I’m pleased for the lads that the hard work which they do at training and on matchdays has paid off.”
On the defence …
“Jonty is basically the Manager on the pitch as his position allows him to see everything and he communicates really well which is a massive asset to the defence. The back four today were fantastic and it is probably summed up perfectly that two of them were up for Man of the Match today. They didn’t put a foot wrong, either in defending or the transition to attack as well which is very important. The ball that Luke Dubery played to Conor Buckley for the first goal was one of the best passes I have seen this season, but it’s play like that which is so important as the opposition didn’t expect it at all.”
On Boroughbridge next week …
“Boroughbridge and Deighton have always met during our history, be it in the Harrogate or West Yorkshire leagues so there has always been that competitive edge between the two teams. Boroughbridge have always been a good team and know how to win games. The last time we met at the beginning of the season I’m still trying to work out how we lost that game, so yeah, we owe them one, but it will be another tough game without a shadow of a doubt!”
