Four months since Rangers last played football the team was finally back as they took to the pitch at Fleet Lane to play York Minster League side Garforth LG FC.
Following the 5-1 win, Manager Dan Marshall and Assistant Manager/Head Coach Ben Lawrence spoke to KDRAFC Media.
A useful workout for Rangers?
BL "Yes it was, and I'd like to thank Damien and Matt at Garforth for their hospitality. The first pre-season match after about four months without a game. I thought fair play to Garforth they did well pressed from the front and made it a hard game for us. It was a great game to kick-off pre-season with because it made the lads think.
We had some new players in there and tried out some different formations, but overall the job was a good one."
Five different goalscorers as well!
DM "Yes, that was very pleasing to see. The key thing for me was that we were very dependant on (Charlie) Yates last year for goals, and we spoke about this before that other players need to be weighing in with goals.
We tried different pairings tonight, and it gives us different options and shapes, and different headaches! But that's what we want. We didn't score enough times last season, so we need to look at ways of changing that, and I thought we saw some good options tonight."
A different test on Saturday however with Rawdon Old Boys the opposition?
BL "Yeah, there will probably be no major changes although we will be looking to make sure that some of the lads who didn't get any game time tonight will feature.
It's just about getting minutes in the tank at the moment, but we will go there and play our stuff against them. We know that they are a competitive side who play good football, so it should be another good game for us."
