Rangers maintained their unbeaten pre-season record with a 1-0 win over Premier Division side Headingley AFC at Barr Field.
Following the game, Assistant Manager & Head Coach Ben Lawrence spoke to KDRAFC Media.
Initial impressions of the game.
"It was a pleasing game, and good to get another one under the belt. Headingley were a good test and came with a lot of challenges for us to deal with."
"It was also pleasing because that is the third game in, and the lads' fitness levels are getting where we want them to be. There is still a long way to go."
"It was a scrappy game in some parts, but there was also some good football played by both teams, and it was a hard-fought win, but I was pleased with what I saw."
"There were some stand-out performances I thought, Milky (Joe Wilks) and Josh Bhandal were superb, and Craig (Hall) was again so professional in what he does. He drives the team forward from right-back and not only does his share defensively but also works hard when we are attacking as well. To be fair, every single player today has played their part, which is great to see."
The transitional style of play from the team.
"I like to coach the game as I played it, and it's a case of working hard. I don't like seeing players when we lose possession just walking and expecting other players to win it back. I've tried to drill into them to have that mentality where if we lose it, we all work hard to win it back, and I think that's what breeds success. If we can do that now, and get the players understanding it, it will really help us during the season."
chances made versus goals scored.
"The amount of chances we are making is superb. I would be more worried if we weren't making them. It's pre-season, and we have to remember that a lot of the lads haven't been playing or training for about four or five months, so I am pleased with the number of chances that we are creating."
"I'm also pleased that a lot of the goals are coming from players who didn't score many last season, and that shows that we have players who can score, and will weigh in with them, hopefully when we need them to. We said last time about not over-relying on certain players all the time, so to see others scoring is excellent."
Tadcaster Magnets on Saturday.
I'm looking forward to this one, not only is it more minutes in the tank but its a local derby against a strong outfit that likes to play football. They will be physical and have some good players, and it will be a good test for both teams.
