From The Dugout

Rangers returned to winning ways with a 2-1 win over Humber Premier side Pocklington Town.

Head Coach Ben Lawrence spoke to KDRAFC Media following the game and gave us his thoughts.

On the game.

"I was happy with it. They were another strong outfit and gave us a test that we needed. It was a challenge, but a pleasing one.

During the first half, I thought our out of possession play was excellent. Everyone was busy, and the work rate was there. It was in possession that I thought we tried to force it too much at times and it became a bitty game. We talked about it at half-time as I didn't want the lads just trying to hit the front players with long balls, that's not our style, we can mix it up, and that's what I wanted from them. In the second half, I think we showed our quality, especially when we went a goal down.

To lose two players through injury was a blow, but to show the drive to get the equaliser, and then the winner showed great character from the team. I thought our game management was excellent, and we showed that we could look after the ball when we needed to, especially towards the end of the game."

On being patient after going behind.

"We have ballplayers in this team and we have runners, which is pleasing and essential when this happens. Yes, we went behind against Huntington, but we made a lot of changes which disrupted our rhythm and all credit to Huntington, they took advantage of that. You are always learning, which is what we did and we moved on.

When we went behind this time, we managed the game and got back in front, but I think it was that game management that helped us. It was pleasing to see full commitment even in the 89th-minute to win the ball back and then look after it.

I think Wednesday's game was a wake-up call to some of our players, as it reminded them that if you switch off, you will be punished by good sides.

There were some big performances in this match from the likes of Luke Dubery and Charlie Yates. Joe Turley is also looking sharper with the minutes that he plays."

On the quality of the substitutes.

"That's how good the depth of this squad is. They all know that if they are called upon they have to perform to keep their place. But that's the competition that you want. We have not got just a good ten or eleven, but seventeen or eighteen, and with some really good reserves as well knocking on the door, it means that they have to continue to play well.

On next opposition Knaresborough Town.

"It's another superb game that we are looking forward to. we have tried to up the quality of opposition, and we know that they will have a very strong squad to choose from. They will come here, be competitive and give us plenty of challenges to overcome."
