Kris Macdonald's Post-Match Reaction

It took a while, but in the end and with a change in playing style, Rangers Reserves chalked up a 5-0 win to keep themselves in pole position in the West Yorkshire Alliance Division Two.

The goals finally came in the second half when Rob Holliday scored the first. This was added to by a John Large header, a volley from Sam Straker, a pearler of a curler from Brad Spencer and a shot from Craig Hall.

Following the game, Player-Manager Kris Macdonald spoke to KDRFC TV. Here is what he had to say:

On the match itself …

It took us a while to get that win and I think sometimes it’s a mentality thing. It sounds easy to say, but sometimes that attitude that you should win creeps in and you have to get that changed and it took us a while, but we did and then the game changed.

I have to say that Pool didn’t look like a team struggling in the league and only have five points. I thought that the way they set up, their defensive play and their determination really made it difficult to break then down. It took us until we made a couple of subs before we started to really break them down.

On the substitutions …

The subs made a massive impact today. I said at half time that we needed to get the ball down and just enjoy ourselves instead of going long, which was our downfall in the first half. Rob (Holliday) came on and showed his talent and gave us that impetus that we needed to drive at our opponents. Brad (Spencer) was also like that, he ran at the full backs and produced some quality crosses and made two goals with his skill.

On the goals scored …

We scored some quality goals today and I have to say that Sam’s (Straker) was excellent, but again that came from a drive from Brad, beating his man and then putting in a pin point cross, but it was a superb finish from Sam who hit it perfectly. I have to say that Sam deserved that as he has been injured and has come back and with some of his play, he has been unlucky, but he deserved that one today.

Brad’s goal was special as well, Danny (Gore) said that it was over the line before the Pool player touched it, but what a shot to score with, again, like Sam’s, very much deserved.
