Kris Macdonald's Post Match Verdict.

Following Deighton's comeback to beat Altofts FC Reserves 2-1 at Barr Field, Kris Macdonald spoke to KDRAFC Media.

Here is what he had to say.

The game itself.

The effort is certainly there, and it's good to see that we are not as easy to beat as we were at the beginning of the season. I'm really pleased with that. When we went one-nil down, I thought we looked a little shaky, but the equaliser steadied us again, and we played some decent football at times.

During the second half, I thought we were the more dominant of the two sides. If I have one minor issue, it's that we dropped too deep in the final ten minutes, but in some respects, that's to be expected as we wanted to win and get points on the board.

We have had Graham (Cowgill) from the veteran's side, and a couple of the lads who have been on the first-team fringe due to returning from injury who have played, but fielding a consistent side has been an issue.

On the new-look side and addition of youth players.

We've said to the lads, and you and I have had this conversation as well, it was always going to be a step up in the Alliance First Division. We have lost a lot of players and have had to introduce a lot of young lads who have done themselves proud and acquitted themselves well. They have fitted into the setup well and make themselves available for games and training. So far, they are not complaining when they are not in the starting line-up, but they are pushing, and that's what we want to see.

On Captain Dan Flynn.

He's a goal machine all of a sudden! Flynny is a fantastic player, and I've no doubt that he will be a great captain for this club. He is a talker on the pitch, and sometimes we've had a pop at him for not being loud, but as long as the players can hear him, then I'm happy with that. I don't suppose many people will be as loud as myself and Chris (Plews). His set-pieces have got better and better. The free-kick he scored against Hunslet Reserves was superb, and he takes an excellent penalty as well.

On the confidence within the changing room.

Wins bread confidence, and we can see that in the changing room. Confidence was what we were lacking at the beginning because we weren't a settled team, and people didn't know each other and have that trust in how each other played and their abilities.

I also think that the young lads have created a massive change, mainly because they don't have the weight of the world on their shoulders, they are confident when they get on the pitch, and have integrated well with the rest of the lads. It also helps that they are friendly lads and have definitely boosted morale and confidence. I hope that they continue to turn up to training with big smiles on their faces as it can only help inspire others and help the club as a whole.
