Match Preview: Aberford Albion

Match Graphic
The final match of the year sees us take on the league leaders Aberford Albion.

The final match of 2018 couldn’t be a better one as we travel over to Aberford to face the league leaders in their own backyard. Kick-off at Bunkers Hill is 2pm and the weather should be a mix of light cloud and sunny intervals.

Rangers really need a good result to put them right back in the mix and end the run of poor form that they have been going through recently. A win would give us the chance to close the gap on Newsome in fourth place and also become the first team to beat Aberford this season, however for that fact alone, this will not be an easy match and we will have to be at our best to overcome them.

The leaders have built up quite a fortress at home and have won all seven matches that they have played. In the process of achieving this, they have scored 18 times (avg. 2.6 goals scored at home per match) but it is there defence which has set them apart with just seven goals conceded (avg. 1.0 goals conceded at home per match). As to be expected, a look at the goalscorers stats sees a pair of Albion players within the top ten with John Mallinson with 20 goals and Jack Stoker with 11.

Our previous encounter with Aberford during the opening month of August saw a ten-goal match played out, but with us on the wrong side of a 6-4 scoreline (our goalscorers with Rob Holliday with a brace, Simon Abbott and Luke Dubery). Hopefully we will be able to get a bit of revenge for that exciting, but ultimately frustrating game!

One player who won’t be able to take part is Aberford’s Jordan Madden who is serving a three-match ban which commenced on the 15th Decemeber.

The referee for this game will be Mr Dean Grant. Mr Grant has overseen just one match so far, although he has been Assistant Referee in two others. In his single match in charge, it appears that Mr Grant kept his cards firmly in his pocket.

Should you wish to go and watch this game, then the address that you will need is Bunkers Hill, Main Street, Aberford, LS25 3DF.
