Match Preview: Howden Clough

Match Graphic
Can Rangers make it five unbeaten in a row the league?

Following last weekend’s disappointing 1-1 draw against Kippax FC, Dan Marshall will be urging his side to regain their winning touch, by defeating visitors Howden Clough at Barr Field this coming Saturday. Kick-off is 2:30pm and it is forecast to be windy and wet!

With gaps starting to appear in the table, Marshall and his management team are only too acutely aware that they need to gain maximum points to keep in touch with the top four, but it won’t be an easy ride against a side that are also fighting for a full return to help hoist them up the table. A win for us could see us climb into 5th place, whilst a defeat could drop us into 7th!

Our visitors are currently just one point and place the relegation places having managed eight points from a possible 30! Away from their Batley Sports & Tennis Centre home, they have managed one win, one draw and three defeats. Goals wise, they seem to have no problems hitting the net, having scored 12 times (avg. 2.4 goals per game) however, they do appear to have a leaky defence having conceded the second highest away amount (and the highest amount overall) of 19 goals (avg. 3.8 goals per game) Hopefully this is something our attack can exploit and add a few more to that tally! It appears that our defence will have to pay attention to George Harry Brook who has five goals to his name already.

Looking at the FA disciplinary tables, both teams seem to have no problems ahead of the game, but Rangers will be without a couple players due to injury, however, they will be running fitness checks on a few returning faces, so it should be a very strong team that takes to the pitch.

Taking up the whistle for this match is Mr Joe Moss. Mr Moss has been the referee for four matches already, including one for our Reserves when they defeated Pool AFC Reserves 8-0 in August. In these four matches, he has issued ten yellow cards and no reds. We hope that Mr Moss has a pleasant time whilst he is at Barr Field.

Our club house will be open from 1pm and as usual we will have a great range of drinks (both alcoholic and soft) for you to buy including our match day special at just £2.00 a bottle. We also have some bags of sweets for the youngsters (or even adults!!) at just 50p each (whilst stocks last) so come on down and support local grassroots football. We are still on the lookout for a matchday sponsor, so if you would like to here, please click here for more information.

We hope that everyone visiting has a safe journey to and from our club and you are guaranteed a warm welcome at Barr Field.
