Saturday provides us with the chance to make a real statement of intent if we can overcome the challenge of Newsome! This will be a tough ask, but one that Manager Dan Marshall is confident that the team can deliver. Kick-Off is 2pm, and the weather doesn't look so clever with scattered showers mixed with sunny intervals.
Last weekend’s 5-1 win over Howden Clough, and the performance that went with it, saw a new wave of optimism spread through the team, and it is this new intensity that Rangers will be wanting to bring to every match from now on. Every point is vital as we look to break into the top three, so concentration from the first to the final whistle is a must.
Having played Newsome once already this season and losing a vexing match 3-1, Rangers will be hoping to gain some revenge over our Huddersfield based rivals. On the road, they have played seven games, winning three and losing four. They have scored 15 goals (avg. 2.1 goals per game) and conceded 12 (avg. 1.7 goals per game). A win for us could, results depending, see us jump a couple of places into third place. A defeat could drop us down into sixth.
One good omen for us is the fact that the last time the two teams met at Barr Field (16th Sep 2017), we ran out 3-1 winners (goals from Luke Dubery, Andy Maxted and James Ripley), hopefully, home advantage will be beneficial to us again!
Suspension wise, both teams are fine and with a number of players returning from injury, Marshall should have a good squad to represent us come kick-off.
Taking charge of this match will be Mr Mick Spicer. Mr Spicer has been rather busy this season and has officiated 11 other games so far. In these contests he has cautioned 19 players and dismissed 2. We have seen Mr Spicer in action as he was the referee during our 4-3 victory over Otley Town in the West Yorkshire League Cup.
The gates to the ground will be open from approx. 12:30pm and we welcome you all to the ground. Our bar will be serving a wide variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages at a great price, we also have our match day special at just £2.00 a bottle.
Also, if you have any spare pennies and would like to donate them to a great cause, we will also have our prostate Cancer UK collection boxes around the clubhouse. You can also buy one of their great Men United Pin Badges for a pound (or two!) from these boxes as well.
