With our unbeaten start to 2019 still intact after last weekend’s 4-1 win over Leeds Modernians, the team travel to Rothwell with a lot of confidence behind them. The match has a 2pm kick-off time and the forecasted weather is light rain and wind.
Dan Marshall will be urging his squad to keep the superb momentum and form that they have showed recently, but both he and his management team know that our hosts will not be a side that will capitulate easily, and we will be sure of a tough match at Fleet Lane.
Despite being in the lower half of the table, Rothwell are well known for being able to frustrate any team on their day, as we found out the first time the two teams met in August last year until a late brace from Josh Barden (to go with Roman Neal’s opener) secured a 3-1 win for us. A victory this Saturday could see us close the gap on the four teams above us, should any of them drop points. However, a defeat could see either Hartshead or East End Park cut down our lead over them.
Residing in 12th place with a total of 17 points, Rothwell have collected 10 of these with their home form which has seen then win 3, draw 1 and lose 5. Goals wise, they have found the net 14 times (avg. 1.5 goals scored at home per game) and have conceded slightly more with 21 registered against (avg. 2.3 goals conceded at home per game).
The stats show that our defensive will have to watch Benjamin Andrew closely as he is Rothwell’s top scorer with 10 goals (9 in the league).
Both teams appear to have no suspension issues to worry about, and as we have seen recently, the Gaffer should be able to name a strong squad to travel over to Leeds.
Taking control of this match is Mr. Alex McGeorge. So far, Mr McGeorge has been the referee for ten matches and in these games has issued 22 yellow cards and 3 reds!
