Having made it two games unbeaten so far during pre-season, Manager Dan Marshall will be hoping that his squad can increase this figure when they welcome York Minster Premier Division side Huntington Rovers to Barr Field on Wednesday evening.
Kick-off for this game is 7pm and a look at the weather forecast shows that it should be played under light cloud with sunny intervals throughout!
Last time round, Rangers came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw against West Yorkshire Premier Division Headingley and the manager is expecting another battling performance from his team this time around. “I must admit that I don’t know too much about them, but I’ve been told that they finished in the top three of their league and one of our players who used to play in the York league said that they were a standout team, so we are expecting another hard game, but to be fair, that’s what we want!”
Our visitors have a very impressive record in the league and have only finished outside the top six once in six seasons (2012/2013 - when they finished 7th!) Last season, they claimed third spot by four points and in the process scored 74 goals in 28 games (avg. 2.6 goals per game) whilst conceding 46 (avg. 1.6 goals per game).
Managed by ex-York City and Huddersfield Town (to name but a few) striker Iain Dunn, they have gained a reputation of being one of the toughest sides in York to break down and should certainly be expected to challenge for honours during the coming season.
Please come and not only support Rangers, but also local football. We wish our visitors a very warm welcome and safe journey both to and from Barr Field and as normal, our clubhouse will be open pre and post-match and serving a superb assortment of beverages, both alcoholic and soft for your enjoyment.
Unfortunately, due to work commitments, there will be no media at this match. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause.
