Preview - Rothwell

Preview graphic
It's the first league match at home for Rangers.

The euphoria of the opening day 7-2 win over Oxenhope Recreation a week ago was temporarily halted when the midweek clash against Boroughbridge AFC saw us return to Kirk Deighton with a 2-0 defeat in tow. The squad are desperate not to have that happened twice in a week, and will be looking to gain maximum points against Rothwell FC at Barr Field tomorrow.

The kick-off for this game is scheduled to be 2:30pm and looking at the weather forecast, its going to be cloudy with a slight chance of rain.

Manager Dan Marshall was not happy following the Boroughbridge defeat and has set his team the challenge of an instant return to winning ways. However, with the squad suffering a couple of injuries during the recent two matches, there will be a change in personnel in his final selection.

Our visitors have also started with a mark in both the win and loss column. Last Saturday saw them beat our neighbours Wetherby Athletic 2-0, whilst midweek action saw a reversal by the same scoreline against current league leaders Hall Green United. At present, they sit in 8th position, but, like us, a win could take them straight to the top of the league.

The referee for this clash is Mr Ben Brighton. Mr Brighton was the man in the middle for the Howden Clough Res v Wyke Wanderers Res match last weekend and he kept his cards in his pocket. Let’s hope the match tomorrow doesn’t give him reason to pull any colour out! We hope that Mr Brighton has a pleasant time whilst at Barr Field.

Unfortunately, there will be no photographs for this game as our Media Officer is off on his holiday! Normal service will be resumed in two weeks. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Please come down and support both Rangers and local football. A warm welcome is guaranteed for all and we hope that Rothwell FC have a safe and pleasant drive over to Kirk Deighton. Our club house will be open and serving a great range of alcoholic and soft drinks, all at a great price!
