A see-saw of a match saw Otley grab a first minute lead only for Ashley Tatler to even the scores up just before half-time. Rangers took the lead through Charlie Yates, but Otley pulled level a couple of minutes later. Against the run of play, Otley scored again, but this time Joe Turley came to our rescue with a cool finish seven minutes from time.
Speaking after the game, Manager Dan Marshall spoke to KDRAFC Media Officer Pete Arnett. Here is what he had to say.
About The Game …
“I thought that game had a bit of everything. I thought we were excellent. We conceded a cheap goal in less than 60 seconds, but for the rest of the half I thought we dominated, but their goalkeeper has made several good saves, including the penalty one, but we’ve missed three or four good chances as well. I believe we should have come in at half time in the lead at least.
We started the second half very well and went 2-1 up, which was no more than we deserved, but we conceded straight away, although we were sure that in the build up to their goal, there was a foul committed on Danny Grannon, but the referee has decided to play on and they’ve broken and scored. Maybe as a team, we could have defended the goal better, but I still think it was a foul.
We have then gone 3-2 down against the run of play but credit to the lads, they kept going, kept creating chances and we got the least we deserved when Joe (Turley) scored.
We’re not quite getting the results at the moment, but I’ve been very pleased with the performances. We will keep moving forward and we will keep progressing.
On A Formation Change …
We tweaked the formation from Saturday and thought that we could exploit the wings more. With the ground being wet and soft, we thought that we could dominate the wings with fast pace, and it worked. Both wingers, Charlie (Yates) and Josh (Barden) caused no end of problems, but we just have to work hard and it will come together.
On The New Faces Starting To Gel …
Yes, I’m pleased with how quickly the team have come together. I know people say that’s why you have a pre-season, to lay the foundations, but like with Ashley (Tatler) who came into it late, we’ve had periods where we haven’t been able to field the team we want, but all the lads have welcomed the new players in and we have seen some really good signs already.
