Manager's Reaction - Wetherby Athletic

It was a happy but pragmatic Dan Marshall that spoke to KDRAFC Media following Deighton's 3-1 win over local rivals Wetherby Athletic at Barr Field.

Here's what he had to say.

On Deighton's Performance.

"It was a little disjointed tonight if I'm honest. We started the match well for the first ten minutes and went one up through George. We then seemed to sit back a bit, and Wetherby came back into the game, and Josh Wilson is always a handful and had a couple of chances. We didn't seem to get a foothold when we needed to. Saying that, as the half went on, we came back into it a little bit more and finished well."

"They have equalised through a great strike by James Flynn, but we didn't sit back and keep on creating chances, and Josh Barden's first goal was a fantastic finish. His second has had a touch of luck about it, as it was a cross, but at the end of the day, you take it. He did well to get it on target, and it will always cause problems if you do that, so fair play to him."

"It was a typical derby that was end-to-end, and both sides had spells when they were on top. Tonight we have taken our chances which we haven't done before, so I was pleased with that side of it."

On The Importance Of The First Win.

"Yeah, the win is important, but as you know, we are not necessarily looking at the results and their importance at the moment. We are looking at getting minutes in the tank and building ourselves up. Tonight there were some excellent individual performances, but we are still a little disjointed as a team, but it was a much better show from us, and that was pleasing."

On Jonty Smith's Performance.

"Although Mike McCartney was hands down the Man of the Match, Jonty was excellent again and made two or three superb saves at crucial times. I've said many times that there is no other goalkeeper that I'd rather have between the sticks. He was the first player that I brought with me when I came back to the club many years ago, and I can see him being number one for quite some time still."

On Pool AFC

"It will be a tough encounter as it's never an easy place to go. It's quite a tight pitch, and they are always up and at you and in your face. It will pose a different challenge from tonight, but that is what this league is all about. I expect Pool to be very, very busy, and it should be a good game."
