The games don’t come bigger than this for our Reserves as they host Boroughbridge AFC Reserves at Barr Field on Saturday in a match that may well decide who is crowned Champions at the end of the campaign!
The game has a 2:30pm kick-off and the weather forecast shows that it should be sunny intervals, a light breeze and temperatures of around 7-8 degrees C!
All throughout the season, neither team has given a inch and with just one point separating the two sides, this match really does carry such an sense of importance, that it promises to be a gripping match! Looking on from the sidelines, as they have no match this weekend, are Salts FC Reserves, who will be hoping that this contest ends in a draw. Salts bounced back from a shock 2-1 defeat against Old Centralians Reserves last weekend with a 3-1 victory over Ilkley Town Reserves midweek. Despite being four points behind us, Salts have two games in hand, but have to play both us and Otley Town in their run in. One thing is for certain, this league is going right to the wire!
As one would expect, our visitors have a good away record. They have recorded eight wins, two draws and just two defeats away from their Sports Pavilion home. In the goal stakes, they have scored the joint second highest away goals total (alongside Otley Town) with 39 goals, but they have the third highest goals conceded record in the top seven with 21 put past them. The FA stats point to Mark Burniston being their main goal threat with 11 league goals to his name.
Boroughbridge have already claimed three points from us when the two teams met in the season opener, way back in August last year. That match, despite a brace from Danny Gore, ended in a 3-2 defeat, let’s hope we can turn the tables!
The referee for this match will be Mr Darren De Souza. During the season, he has taken charge of eight matches, with another two as an assistant referee. He has shown the yellow card a total of ten times and also dismissed three players. We hope that Mr De Souza has a pleasant time whilst he is at Barr Field.
As ever, we would also like to extend a warm welcome to our visiting team, officials and supporters. The gates to the ground will be open from approximately 12:30pm and you are more than welcome to come and join us for a drink in our clubhouse. We will be serving our matchday special for just £2.50 per bottle, as well as a wide choice of both alcoholic and soft drinks for you to buy before, at half-time and after the game.
Also, if you have any spare pennies and would like to donate them to a great cause, we will also have our prostate Cancer UK collection boxes around the clubhouse. You can also buy one of their great Men United Pin Badges for a pound (or two!) from these boxes as well.
