The Reserves return to Barr Field on Saturday looking to finally break into the top three. However, they will need to break down a Howden Clough side who will also be looking for a maximum return of points as they look to reverse a two-match losing run.
The match kicks-off at 2:30pm and the weather appears to be sunny intervals with a gentle breeze!
A great 3-0 win against Altofts Reserves last weekend, coupled with some results going our way, has seen us separated from second placed Salts Reserves by just two points, and it is this position in the league that we will be hoping to occupy at the end of what is sure to be a tough match.
Howden reside mid-table at present lying in 8th place with a total of 24 points. They are certainly a better team on the road having won six of the ten games that they have played, with the other four ending in defeats. Goals wise, they have scored 29, which is the second best away total in the league behind Salts, but they also have a generous defence, which has shipped 28, making them the 6th highest in the division.
Strangely enough for February, this is the first time that the two sides have met this season, although in the corresponding fixture last year, we enjoyed a 1-0-win courtesy of a Vito D’Avanzo goal.
The referee for this match will be Mr Richard Douglas. Mr Douglas has been in charge for 11 games so far this season and has, according to the F.A. website, issued 9 yellow cards and a solitary red one. We hope that our match day official has a pleasant time whilst he is at Barr Field.
We would also like to extend a warm welcome to our visiting team, officials and supporters. The gates to the ground will be open from approximately 12:30pm and you are more than welcome to come and join us for a drink in our clubhouse. We will be serving our matchday special for just £2.00 per bottle, and there will also be a great range of both alcoholic and soft drinks for you to buy before, at half-time and after the game.
Also, if you have any spare pennies and would like to donate them to a great cause, we will also have our prostate Cancer UK collection boxes around the clubhouse. You can also buy one of their great Men United Pin Badges for a pound (or two!) from these boxes as well.
