Match Preview: Rothwell Reserves

Match Preview graphic
Rangers looking to leap back into second place with vital three points.

Our Reserve team has a shot at getting back into the top three this Saturday, but they will have to overcome the difficult threat that visitor’s Rothwell Reserves will pose. The kick-off time for this match at Barr Field is 2:30pm and it should be a reasonably decent day weather wise.

Fresh from their 2-1 Hulme Cup victory over Kirkby Malzeard last weekend, Player/Manager Kris Macdonald will demand that his side bring the same focus to this match, especially if they want to end the afternoon back in the promotion mix!

Of course, for that to happen, then we will have to see off the challenge that Rothwell Reserves will bring. As they are desperate for points to pull themselves clear of the gang of teams down the bottom end of the table, then they will be ready for a scrap and will be pushing us all the way. At present, they are in 10th place with six points from a potential total of 24.

Away from their Fleet Lane home, they a pretty decent record, having won and lost two apiece. Goals wise, they have managed to score 6 (avg. 1.5 goals per match) times, but it’s in defence where they are most impressive on the road, having only conceded 5 (avg. 1.25 goals per match) goals! Looking at the stats, whilst Vito D’Avanzo leads our charge with 5 goals so far, Ricky White is Rothwell’s leading hitman with 3 goals up to this match.

Taking charge of this match is Mr Paul Bennett. This is just Mr Bennett’s second game in charge, with his first being a month ago when Shelley beat Baildon Trinity Athletic 4-1. During this match, he showed two yellow cards to both teams. We hope that Mr Bennett has a pleasant time whilst he is at Barr Field.

Our clubhouse will be open from 1pm and as usual we will have a great range of drinks (both alcoholic and soft) for you to buy including our match day special at just £2.00 a bottle. We also have some bags of sweets for the youngsters (or even adults!!) at just 50p each (whilst stocks last) so come on down and support local grassroots football.

We hope that everyone visiting has a safe journey to and from our club and you are guaranteed a warm welcome at Barr Field.
