Match Preview: Whitkirk Wanderers Res

Match Preview Graphic
A pulsating West Yorkshire League Trophy tie awaits at Barr Field.

The West Yorkshire League Trophy becomes the main focus for the Reserves this Saturday, as they welcome Whitkirk Wanderers Reserves to Barr Field for this first round encounter. The match has a scheduled 2pm kick-off time and looking at the weather forecast, it could be a wet time with light showers set for most of the day!

Kris Macdonald’s side have had a bit of a stuttering time with games played recently. In September, they only managed three matches and were forced by fixtures to miss two weeks completely. Saying this however, they won all three and it is this form that they will be hoping to take into this tricky tie against on opposition also riding high!

Whitkirk Wanderers Reserves sit in second place of the Alliance Division One, just three points behind leaders Field Reserves. Offering us a rough guide to form, because as we know in a cup competition, form often goes out the window, Whitkirk have suffered their only defeat of the season so far on the road (4-2 against Field) - let’s hope that our lads can double this statistic!

Goals wise, our visitors seem to be well versed with finding the net having hit seven past Hunslet Club Reserves and five past both Oxenhope and Headingley Reserves respectively (they are even more ruthless at home with 10-1 & 9-2 wins over Horbury Town and Robin Hood Athletic Reserves recently!) However, they are coming up against a Rangers defence that has conceded the lowest amount of goals in our league and only two in total at home! Sounds like a great battle on paper!

The winners of this match will play either East End Park Reserves or old Centralians Reserves away in the next round.

The referee for this match is Mr Art McCann. Mr McCann has been in the middle for three other matches this season, none involving us. Looking back at these games, it would appear that he has shown the yellow card six times (averaging two a game) and no red cards so far. We hope that our visiting official has a pleasant time whilst he is at Barr Field.

The ground and our club house will be open from around 1pm and as usual we will have a great range of drinks (both alcoholic and soft) for you to buy including our match day special at just £2.00 a bottle. We also have some bags of sweets for the youngsters (or even adults!!) at just 50p each (whilst stocks last) so come on down and support local grassroots football. We hope that everyone visiting has a safe journey to and from our club and you are guaranteed a warm welcome at Barr Field.
