Match Preview: Wyke Wanderers Res

Match Graphic
Our Reserves will be looking to make it six league wins in a row!

Our Reserves team travel over to Cleckheaton this Saturday to take on Wyke Wanderers Reserves as they return to West Yorkshire Alliance League 2 action. They know all too well that nothing short of all three points will do if they are to close the gap that both Salts Reserves and East End Park Reserves have opened. The match has a 2:30pm kick-off time and the forecast shows a mixture of light showers and occasional sunny spells!

Kris Macdonald’s men will be looking to bounce back from the 4-1 defeat that they suffered last weekend against Alliance League 1 side Whitkirk Wanderers Reserves in the League Trophy. One area that the manager will be hoping continues however, is the performance and work rate that they showed, as for long periods they were equal to their counterparts and only a lesson in chances took was the difference between the two teams!

Our opponents will be looking to pull away from the bottom part of the table as, even though they reside in 9th place, they are just three points off being dragged into the bottom three. At their Whitechapel Road ground, they have played just twice and ended up with a win (2-1 v Old Centralians Reserves) and a defeat (Away Win awarded to Kippax Reserves). A look at the FA stats show that Joe Haley and Hoi Pin Truong lead the Wyke Wanderers Reserves goal scoring charts with two strikes apiece.

The last time that the two teams met at Wyke was in May this year and it saw the home side just edge a seven-goal thriller. Our scorers that day were Russell Colling, Phil Turner and John-Paul Williams.

The referee for this match will be Mr Richard Woodard. Mr Woodard has overseen two other matches, one featuring us when he was the man in the middle for our 5-0 win over Kippax FC Reserves in September. Let’s hope he brings us the same luck on Saturday! In the two matches he has officiated, there have been eight yellow cards and no reds!

If you would like to go and watch this game, then the address you will need is Whitechapel Road, Low Moor, Cleckheaton, BD19 6HW
