Rangers crashed to their second defeat in a row, and nobody at Barr Field would argue that it wasn't deserved.
Hall Green pushed Deighton back from the start, and within the first few minutes, the defence had to hook two dangerous crosses clear.
The visitors registered their first shot after five minutes when a headed clearance fell to a player on the edge of the area, and his shot went over.
Deighton finally ventured up the pitch, and some good play between Ash Tatler and Rob Holliday saw that former win a corner that was headed wide at the far post.
Despite Hall Green having the majority of the play, it was Deighton who fashioned the best chance after Luke Dubery took a quick free quick that found Harvey Ribbons. Drilling in a low cross, it just had too much pace for the stretching Tatler.
An injury to Sam Murphy forced Dan Marshall into making an early substitution, and George Widdows replaced him.
Rangers were squandering some good advanced positions as they delayed playing the final ball and allowed Hall Green United a chance to block the play.
Another pinpoint pass by Josh Barden released Tatler, but nobody had made the run with him, and he shot wide from a narrow-angle.
Hall Green suffered an injury when their goalkeeper had to leave the pitch following a calf injury.
Back on the attack, a quick pass from right to left allowed their player to take a shot, but Jonty Smith leapt to his left and caught it without issue.
Rangers were using the wings well, with Tatler, Widdows, Ribbons and Jake Little heavily involved. However, the final ball was the problem, and Hall Green had little difficulty clearing what came into their area.
Hall Green had the final attack of the half when they cut off the right flank and into the area. Tracking his man was Holliday, and his sliding block forced the ball out for a corner that came to nothing.
Half-Time: Kirk Deighton Rangers 0 v 0 Hall Green United
Changes were made at half-time as Rangers searched for the formation that would break down Hall Green. Mike McCartney and Sid Abbott replaced Mason Sheridan-Hawley and Little.
Storming up the pitch, the visitors won a corner that Deighton headed clear despite the black and white shirts claiming a penalty for a foul.
A counter-attack saw Ribbons cut off the left-wing and curl his shot into the top corner. However, he got too much power in it, and the ball ended up in the allotments behind the goal.
Rangers chanced their luck after a superb strike crashed onto the inside of the post and bounced back out. Thankfully the onrushing Hall Green player was offside as he touched the ball.
Deighton attacked again when Ribbons flicked on Smith's goal kick to Tatler. However, just like the first half, no blue shirt had gambled, and Tatler's cross was cleared. Minutes later, Widdows played Tatler in again, but this time, the keeper saved his shot.
Hall Green took the lead in the 70th minute when a deft flicked header from a free-kick beat Smith and nestled in the net.
Trying to fashion a response, chances fell to Barden and Abbott, but their shots were blocked by some resolute defending. Ribbons also had a curling shot that went just wide.
The match was over as a contest in the 74th minute when Hall Green's winger cut off the left wing and looped his shot over Smith to seal the points.
To give Rangers some credit, they kept trying, and Widdows crossed low, forcing the keeper to bravely dive at Tatler's feet to stop him from scoring.
